tarnish the shiny-happy world

I'd sooner be depressed than live in a world of fake happiness... I don't want to hold on to an image of what's right that's a result of the shiny-happy lie. the lie held onto by so many personal development officers and all those videos about say no to drugs that they show during high school... the lie that everyone will be your friend, you'll never be lonely for more than a few freeze-frames and everything is so wonderful you just must smile big and wide ALL THE TIME.

As I once said while discussing Huxley's Brave New World, I reserve the right to feel depressed in the face of a constant mediocre happiness based on unreal expectations. I'd rather feel the lows, not deny them... it makes the highs so much higher, and so much more true.
