Pogo or get out of the Pit
I was recently struck by something. Namely an aggressive fuckwit in a moshpit. As I staggered forward into my girlfriend, smashing my nose into the back of her head, a thought popped into my mind:
I used to have fun in moshpits.
The first moshpits I experienced were at Alternative Nation, firstly for PWEI and then for NIN. I can't adequately describe how mindfuckingly awesome that day was. At any rate, the mosh pit was just that - a MOSH pit. Not a place where if you jump in the air you get belted from behind and flung into the person in front of you by some shithead running back and forwards (literally). I watched this guy as he pushed as hard as he could at the people in front of him, then when a space a metre wide cleared out, he ran backwards into those behind him.
For the first time, I realised why people get the urge to punch the fuck out of someone in a moshpit. At least, why I get that urge (like I could actually punch the fuck out of someone anyway =) *shrug*). This was when Custard were on, for fuck's sake! A Custard moshpit should be a FUN moshpit. What happened to pogo'ing? PWEI fans know about the pogo, after all Clint even does it on stage :) At PWEI and NIN people jumped up and down, on the beat, rolling with the music and with their attention on the bands they loved. It was almost spiritual. It was one of the greatest things I've ever done.
Why have people lost that spiritual feeling, the way you go into the moshpit and swim away with the music leaving the world behind as you jump with the beat? The beat is irresistable when you're focused on the music, you know when to jump, when to stand and when to dance. The whole goddamn pit knows. PWEI and NIN, we were all in time. We jumped and landed at the same time. The cloud of dust that rose from the first impact was a sight to behold. You can't tell me the music isn't hanging on the air when that happens.
What's wrong with people?? What causes someone to think yeah, I'll go into the mosh pit and smash into people as hard as I can (or for variation, get pissed out of my brain and then go into the mosh pit and smash into people as hard as I can)?? What happened to getting into the music? Why did people stop watching the stage and rocking along with the show to simply get aggressive? These people shouldn't be in concerts, they should go and learn boxing if they want to be violent; learn some discipline and do a martial art, something, but get outta the fucking pit. That should be the motto of moshing:
"Pogo or get out of the pit."
I guess these are the same people who go out and beat up a total stranger for no reason. They don't know how to release their anger without hurting other people, like they just don't know that you can punch a canvas bag and get the same result. Why have people lost these basic emotional abilities? Is there something in the water? It seems that some people are regressing straight back to Neanderthal times. I think that's why I hate them as much as I do.
Fuckwits. Can't live with them, can't shoot them.
