brisbane city, from the mt coot-tha lookout; which overlooks the inner city area of brisbane. mt coot-tha is known for many things... including being one of the first stops for busloads of japanese tourists; a rev-head heaven; popular nookie spot; and a great place to cheer on the thunderstorms.
the creek street fig trees; a stand of huge figs in the business and yuppie drinking end of town. i had to wait while it got dark before i could take this photo... i remember it very well because i had an extremely enjoyable pint that evening. i was with my girlfriend and we dropped into the Dubliner, which is about 20m to the right of this photo. sat back with a Kilkenny, and listened to an irish band which happened to be having a practice/jam in the otherwise empty bar. very mellow.
"gotham". it's really the 'law building' but everyone calls it gotham. i wish we had more buildings like this.
yet another high-rise in the 'downtown' type area.
the tropical dome at the mt coot-tha botanic gardens.
the "people's palace" backpackers hotel; which includes the (in)famous Down-Under Bar. many globetrotting youths have happy, albeit hazy memories of this place.
toowong station, the nearest train station to the university of queensland. i've sat on that bench a lot. i've stared at those monitors a lot. i've waited in winter and been glad of my trenchcoat a lot. i once hailed an express train at this platform - i waved, they stopped. no idea why. it then continued as an express.
the guard, who looks up and down the train; blows a whistle then hits a button twice - a bell dings each time he hits it, you can hear it in certain carriages. meanwhile you're treated to a recording saying "doors closing... please, stand clear." every station.
