Say what???

A classic case of legalese (that strange language spoken
by people cool enough to wear wigs and drive BMWs):

"The driver shall not proceed beyond the road marking applicable in relation to the light in the direction that makes with the direction directly ahead an angle that has approximately the same number of degrees as has the smaller of the angles that the direction in which the arrow is pointing makes with the vertical."

- Motor Traffic Act (1936), 112B s(i) item 7.

Translated into English, this means:

'Stop at red arrows.'

This was quoted on TV's "Denton" many moons ago.
The translation was provided by the man who
drafted it, if my memory serves.
